The Story Behind the Artwork

Always In Our Hearts was created to honour and remember the Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as the survivors who endured these experiences and continue to carry their stories.

This artwork is a heartfelt tribute to the precious lives lost, the courage and resilience of survivors, and the families and communities forever impacted by the residential school system.

Through remembrance, compassion, and understanding, we honour the children, acknowledge the strength of survivors, and recognize the importance of listening, learning, and sharing these stories with future generations.

May this artwork serve as a gentle reminder that every child matters, every story deserves to be heard, and those who never returned home, along with those who survived, will always hold a special place in our hearts.
